The Latino Filmmakers Mixer: A Royal Social Affair II, took place on Monday, Jan 25th from 2:30 to 7 p.m. during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
The event, organized by Maylen Calienes and co-hosted by Hispanicize, featured the panel discussion “Latinos Unidos: How the creative impact we create can benefit greater communities.” This panel focused on how filmmakers can be agents of change, and how the work we do can address the needs of our larger creative community.
This year’s event sponsors included SAG-AFTRA, Final Draft, IndieLounge, and Vibrate Hollywood. The event was at capacity, attracting over 150 guests. The conversation went from current issues facing our industry to pay equality to talent on Spanish networks.
Panelists included:
- Moderator: Maylen Calienes, Founder of Latino Filmmakers/MayCal Productions
- Axel Caballero, Executive Director, National Association of Latino Independent Producers
- Calixto Chinchilla, Director, Filmed Entertainment, Hispanicize
- Benjamin DeJesus, Filmmaker, ABC/Disney Television Group fellow
- Eric Mainade, Writer/Co-Director, “Boniato,” an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival
This event was a success on many levels, highlighting Hispanicize as a hub for content creators, journalists, brands and influencers. We have received great interest in next year’s event, and will explore greater ways to activate. This was definitely an accomplishment in getting Hispanicize’s attention, and we each left with a better understanding of what we can do. I recommend bundling sponsorship of the film program to our Sundance event and planning ahead to make a greater impression in Park City next year.
